A couple of gags raise a grudging smile and there is one very good sequence where the different sausages and veg discover their fates in a suburban kitchen. Sausage Party is a 2016 CGI-animated feature film that has the dubious honor of being the first R-rated, completely-CGI feature-length film ever produced note. For most of its running time ‘Sausage Party’ flounders without inspiration in a desperately hysterical manner. Rogen, who co-wrote the script with Goldberg, Kyle Hunter, and Ariel Shaffir, voices a hot dog named Frank who falls out of a shopping cart and embarks on an eventful journey to make it back to. There is a certain irony to be had from the fact that the film, aimed squarely at the adult market, is more juvenile in concept and writing than ‘Finding’ Dory’ or ‘Zootopia’, both of which are intelligently written, imaginative and truly funny. Unfortunately, the execution leaves a lot to be desired and the bad taste jokes remain just that with the lack of laughs exacerbating the true offensive nature of the material, which possibly has something to offend almost everyone.
